Fuel, food and textiles might be going up in price, but I'm going DOWN in my shipping charges to you. A few months ago, I changed my shipping table. Most catalog businesses charge freight based on weight or sales total. As weight or sales total increases, so does the cost of the freight. My shipping table is in reverse. It begins at $4, and as you add more to your order it keeps reducing down to $3, then $2, then $1 and if you order over $90, shipping is free. We've gotten great feedback on this table. "unusual" "great!" "love it!" Plus most of the time we are doing same day shipping!

If you have been following my blog, I've been knitting away on my LK150 over the last few months. This raglan jacket is knit out of bulky weight yarn, FEZA Fanatic. At tension 9, on every needle the fabric is fairly firm, which is a good thing for a jacket I plan to wear often. For a softer fabric every other needle would work a more drapy fabric. This raglan lace top was in Knit 'n Style a couple of issues ago. It is a hand knit pattern from Knit One Crochet Too. Mary Anne Oger wrote the machine knit instructions. The yarn is Babyboo, which is soft and drapy. Hand knit on a US#5 needle it gets 5.5 sts per inch. I thoroughly enjoyed translating the chart to the LK150 knitting machine. And it knit up super fast! If you are in the Portland area, I will be speaking on hand knit lace and machine knit lace for the Fort Vancouver Knitters Guild August 10. Email me, and I'll get you more information. My next plan is setting up the
Silver Reed SK280 knitting machine
. It is a standard gauge punchcard machine. The plan is another jacket, perhaps. In fairisle. As soon as this newsletter mails, the machine will be setup next to the checkout counter. I will be working on it for sure during the last few hours on Saturdays, and perhaps other days of the week as well. If you want to watch, come on by, or email or call to make sure I'll be working on it.
Biennial Knitting Machine SeminarPlans are beginning for a knitting machine seminar once every 2 years, here in the Portland Area. Needle-Tek’s Fall Festival Machine Knitting Seminar has retired and, with Bea's assistance, I hope to continue on with the tradition. Here is an email sign up list. I will use this list to let you know of dates, locations and times of seminars, as well as a registration methods, as soon as they are worked out. This list is specific only to this seminar and will not be used for any other purpose, nor shared/sold to any other person or company. When notices are sent out, there is a fast, easy unsubcribe at the bottom of each letter, should you decide you no longer want to be notified.

Charmie of Elegant Heirlooms has two new Christmas Stocking Designs in her line of Googleheim Christmas Stockings. It always amazes me that her stockings sell consistantly all year round. I always get a surge in November, but it continues to surge through January. And all year round. This June, another big surge of kits being shipped occurred. And that was even before I was able to get her newest kits up! |

The pattern I am offering this time was inspired by a scarf a customer brought into the store. She loved this scarf that was hand knit by her granddaughter many years ago and wanted to be able to knit it for others as well. I call it sliding purls just because the 2x2 knit/purl pattern was always moving diagonally across the scarf. The scarf lays flat. Knit it short to lay under your winter coat. Knit it long to wrap many times around your neck. Increase stitches and knit it wide enough to wrap around your ears when winter is particularly cold and biting. Photo was done in Cascade's Eco Duo. This natural eco yarn is a 70% Undyed Baby Alpaca, 30% Undyed Merino Wool yarn, and very very soft. But you can use any yarn. Pattern repeat is just 4 sts, so can be adapted to any weight of yarn by just adding or decreasing by 4 sts. Click here to down load the free pattern: Reversible Sliding Purls Scarf. |
