![]() New Pathways for Sock Knitters, Book 1The first print run of this long-awaited and revolutionary sock book has flown into knitters’ hands, and a much larger second printing was ordered one week after the book’s release. What's in the book? Eight new forms of sock architecture, each introduced with a baby sock, then adult designs in multiple sizes, and a Master Pattern inviting you to create your own designs with any yarn, at any gauge, for any size foot within (or beyond!) each architecture. Over 400 colorful, clear illustrations and photos. You choose your favorite needles – DPN’s, 2 circs, or 1 long circ. Note from Angelika: OK, here's another one for my personal library! There are 8 different techniques (Cat calls them architectures) and for each one there is a baby practice sock. Lots of diagrams and photos. Amazing designs! Book 3 is called Knitting Around the Foot: Ancient Pathways. |

![]() ![]() Getting Started Knitting Socks by Ann Budd from InterweaveGREAT book for learning socks. My favorite part is Chapter 3 where you choose a size for a basic pattern based on number of stitches per inch: 8 Stitches/Inch, 7 Stitches/Inch, 6 Stitches/Inch, 5 Stitches/Inch, and 4 Stitches/Inch. Chapter 2 covers measuring for socks, and the different ways to knit in the round, cast on, joining, cuffs, legs, heel flaps and turns, gussets, foot, toes and finishing. Chapters 4 and 5 cover colors and various textures. Chapter 6 cover cuff and leg variations in different projects. A nice hard back book that lays flat !! Yup, a nice book and a copy is destined for my library! |

Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene SchurchAmazing! Simply Amazing! I could write a book on the things I like about Charlene's Sensational Knitted Socks book. Where to start? Charlene covers every aspect of sock knitting. Yarns: wool, cotton, acrylics, wool-nylon blends, reinforcement yarn even hand spun yarn for socks, as Charlene is also a spinner. Yarn weights and guages. How much yarn? Then into sock basics: top down, toe up, heel flap, gusset, short row heel. Excellent pictures identifying each part of the sock. Swatches! Foot measurements and size charts and taking your own measurements, as Charlene was never happy with the "average" fit of sock patterns. Children, men and women. Knitting techniques: 4 needles, 5 needles, 2 circular needles, cast ons selvages, decreases, picking up, grafting and troubleshooting. (i'm not even halfway through the book yet!). Projects start with a "class sock", which Charlene uses in her beginner sock classes. She also includes a Stitch Dictionary on stitches that work wonderfully on socks. The Stitch Dictionary is divided into 10 sections, each a graded skill level from beginner to advanced. This is the only book on sock knitting you'll ever need! Choose virtually any yarn, gauge, stitch pattern, and size you like—with nearly 1,000 variations, the possibilities for knitting fashionable to funky socks will last a lifetime. 96 pages. |
