Baby Blanket and Booties knitting pattern


Knitting Pure & Simple Bulky Baby Blankets and Booties #281

Three very easy baby blankets that will knit up fast in bulky weight yarn. I recommend Shepherd Bulky. A merino wool that is washable.

Each of the 3 blankets are offered in 2 sizes.

Needle for blankets a 29" circular US#11 or size to get gauge. For booties, US#9 double point or size to get gauge. Stitch markets and safety pin.

Yardage for booties is 100yds.

  • Blanket A is 28x36 (30x30) and requires 512 (595) yards. This is a stockinet stitch blanket with garter stitch trim. (photo shows this in red, and also in yellow, bright pink and orange (color Neon in the Shepherd Bulky Yarn)
  • Blanket B is 28x28 (36x36) and requires 425 (650) yards. This is a garter stitch blanket knit from corner to corner. (it is the pink one wrapped around the baby.)
  • Blanket C is 30x36 (34x42) and requires 550 (725) yards. This is a feather and fan blanket. (it is the yellow one under the baby)

Blocked sizes: Lace Plums is approx 32 x 40 inches. Eyelet Flowers is approx 32 x 36 inches.

Materials: Approx 1150 yads of fingering weight yarn such as fingering or lt sport weight yarns. Try: Shepherd Sock which is very very soft and very washable, or Shepherd Sport which is also very soft and washable.

Size: Approx 36" Square

Materials: Approx 850 yards of fingering weight yarn, such as Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, which will wash and wear wonderfully. Sample was done in Naturally 2-ply Classic. 24 or 29 inch circular needles in US#6 (4mm); a spare smaller needle for picking up sts; crochet hook size G (4mm).

Blanket is knit back and forth in garter stitch lace pattern. Circular needle is recommended to accommodate the size.

Sizes: 36" square in DK weight yarn; 40" square in worsted weight yarn.

Materials: DK weight yarn-1100 yds, US#5 needles in 16, 24, 29 and 36" circulars, 7 markers, plus 1 more of a different color.
Worsted weight yarn-1250 yds, US#8 in 16, 24, 29 and 36" circulars, 7 markers, plus 1 more of a different color.

Gauge: For DK weight yarn-5 sts per inch. For Worsted weight yarn gauge is 4.5 sts per inch. (Shepherd Worsted Washable oh-so-soft wool fits this).

The ever-popular round baby blanket, worked with short row technique. The solid color version is knit in garter stitch; the multi-color version is in stockinette stitch with lace border in garter stitch.
