Three different braid cables grace the simple shape of this cozy cardigan; the body is worked as one piece to the armholes and then is separated for working the back and front sections independently. The shoulders are joined with saddles featuring the smallest braid cable, which continues down the entire sleeve. The sleeves are picked up at the armholes and worked downward. The “sailor” collar is worked separately and is then sewn on. The zipper closing and knitted cord edges make for a clean, complimentary finish to the very busy fabric. Bulky yarn and brief row repeats on the cables lend the knitter a surprisingly quick and fun project. SIZING Women’s sizes 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Chest: 31.75 (35.75, 39.75, 44.25, 48.25, 51.75, 55.75)” , Shoulder to hem: 21.5 (22.5, 23, 23.5, 23.75, 24, 24)”, Sleeve length: 16.5 (17, 17, 17.5, 17.5, 18, 18)” MATERIALS: GAUGE: 18 sts & 20 rows equals 4”/10 cm in St st. |

A somewhat traditional Aran sweater makes the stitch patterns work in unusual ways as the cables subtly emerge between areas of basketweave stitch. This garment sports a pullover style with attached hood, which carries the pattern as well. Drop saddle shoulder continues one of the cable motifs from the hood out the full length of the sleeve. Sized from child size 12 to adult large, the sweater works for women as well. SIZING: Men’s S, (M, L, XL, XXL) Chest 36 (40.5, 43.25, 48, 52)” FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Chest: 39 (43.5, 46.25, 51, 55)” Shoulder to hem: 23.5 (25.5, 27, 28.5, 29,)” Sleeve length: 18 (18.5, 19.5, 20.5, 21)” MATERIALS: GAUGE: 16 sts & 20 rows = 4”/10 cm in St st on larger needles; 18 sts & 24 rows = 4”/10cm in cable st on larger needles. |
